The Top Self Improvement Advice You Never Knew About

By: Sarah Pierce

There are several self-improvement advice out there, but which of them are the most effective? Anyone likes a great technique to enhancing the self. The only thing that needs to be done is to find exactly where that source is.

A really good self-improvement advice is discipline! Discipline does not mean you lose freedom. One habit down means you get tenfold the benefit. It all depends on how much you are actually willing to let go of some things so you can gain something that would benefit your life more.

Begin by doing something, anything. Every time you start to lag, it is essential to breath well and stay away from thoughts that drain energy from you. These things can actually have an effect on your performance.

What you want to do now is to take pleasure in what you do. Look back to those days when you were painting, something you’ve always loved doing, and ended up painting for hours and hours on end. There is always a way to encourage yourself. You can visualize what you’re going to get for your hard work, such as money, personal fulfillment, and a reward from yourself!

A different kind of self-improvement advice is to visualize. This may be too good to be true, but it really is very helpful. Visualization is achieved when a particular image is imagined and the mind eventually goes through a “jumpstart.” Visualization is considered effective because the mind itself is known to have great power over the body.

Visualizing can help you actualize what you tell yourself: “I can do this!” The first step is to fully relax yourself by imagining all muscles beginning to contract from your forehead down to your shoulders until your toes. The next step is to imagine you are crossing something like a bridge, to indicate to yourself that you are crossing over to your subconscious. You may then imagine the desired outcome of reaching your goals. The final step is to imagine that you have already reached that desired outcome.

A comparable self-improvement advice is to attempt hypnosis. A counselor can aid you in doing this. During the usual mental state, a lot of people are incapable of admitting some flaws. When you subconsciously deal with what has to be worked on in life, you will have eliminated those persistent flaws you weren’t even conscious of previously.

The last self-improvement advice is meditation. This is quite connected to the preceding tips in this article. When you attempt to better yourself but at the same time are surrounded by distraction, meditation can aid in enhancing your concentration skills. A mind free of distraction will help you concentrate more on yourself as well as your true desires in life.

The Benefits Of Self-Improvement

By: Louis Bonaventura

When we look at a certain object, a painting for example - we won’t be able to appreciate what’s in it, what is painted and what else goes with it if the painting is just an inch away from our face. But if we try to take it a little further, we’ll have a clearer vision of the whole work of art.

We reach a point in our lives when we are ready for change. A whole pile of information that will help us unlock our self improvement power becomes evident because we are now searching for something to benefit us.

Until then, something can be staring us right in the face, but we don’t see it. The only time we think of unlocking our self improvement power is when everything goes wrong. For some, it’s not until they hit “rock bottom.”

Take a couple of frogs as an example -

Try placing Frog A in a pot of boiling water. What happens? He twerps! He jumps off! Why; because he is not able to tolerate sudden change in his environment - the water’s temperature.

Now try Frog B: place him in a luke warm water, then turn the gas stove on. Wait until the water reaches a certain boiling point. Frog B then thinks “Ooh … it’s a bit warm in here.”

People are like Frog B in general. Today, Anna thinks Carl hates her. Tomorrow, Patrick walks up to her and told her he hates her. Anna stays the same and doesn’t mind what her friend says.

The next day, she learns that Kim and John also abhor her. Anna doesn’t realize the importance of, and the need for, self improvement until the entire community hates her. But it’s never too late!

We learn our lessons when we experience pain. We finally see the warning signs and signals when things get rough and tough.

When do we realize that we need to change our diet? When none of our jeans and shirts fit us any longer! When do we stop eating candies and chocolates? When all of our teeth have fallen out!

When do we realize that we need to stop smoking? When our lungs have gone bad and we can’t breathe any longer.

When do we pray and ask for help? When we realize that we’re going to die tomorrow.

The only time most of us ever learn about unlocking our self improvement power is when our whole world is crashing and falling apart all around us.

We think and feel this way because it is not easy to accept the fact that we need to change. But change becomes even more painful when we ignore it.

Change will happen, like it or hate it. At one point or another, we are all going to experience different turning points in our lives - and we are all going to eventually unlock our self improvement power. Not because the world says so, not because our friends are nagging us, but because we realized it’s for our own good.

Happy people don’t just accept change, they embrace it. Now, you don’t have to feel the tremendous heat before realizing the need for self improvement.

Unlocking your self improvement power means unlocking yourself from being in the state of mind that “it’s just the way I am.” That is such a poor excuse for people who fear and resist change. Most of us program our minds like computers.

Jen repeatedly tells everyone that she doesn’t have the guts to be around groups of people. She hears her parents, sister, and her teacher state the same things about her to other people.

Over the years, that is what Jen believes. She believes it’s her story and that just “the way I am.” And what happens? Every time a large crowd would come over to their house, in school, or in the community - she tends to step back, shy away and lock herself up in a room. Jen didn’t only believe in her story, she lived it.

Jen has to realize that she is not what she is in her story. Instead of having her story posted on her face for everyone to remember, she has to have the spirit to show people “I am an important person and I should be treated accordingly!”

Self improvement may not be everybody’s favorite word, but if we look at things in a different point of view, we might have a greater chance of enjoying the whole process instead of counting the days until we are fully improved.

Three sessions in a week at the gym would result in a healthier life, reading books instead of watching TV or playing video games will enlighten us with more profound knowledge. Going out with friends and peers will help you take a step back from work and unwind.

Something From Oscar Lama for Everyone

Self-Improvement - Something For Everyone

By: Jordi Shoman

Just about everyone in the world can think of something they want to improve about themselves. With some people they may want to achieve more than one improvement. The best way to approach this is to make a list of what is most important to you. It could be something as simple as reading a book to help you improve the work you do or making time for yourself to indulge in reading of your favorite pastime. Once you commit your deepest desires about improving yourself to paper, it seems more attainable.

Start off with a plan. This means setting a goal for yourself. If you wish, you can even set a time limit, such as “I want to be able to walk five km. a day at the end of the summer.” When you start out knowing what it is you want to achieve, then it makes it easier on you to get what you want. There is no point in trying to do everything at once. If you take small steps and reach stages in your self-improvement process in increments, it makes the end result more worthwhile. If you could do it all at once, then it would be too easy and you won’t have the same sense of accomplishment as if it were something that you had to work really hard to get.

In some cases, the type of improvement that you want will necessitate spending money. If you want to become more confident at public speaking, for example, you may have to take classes in this. If you admire a friend of yours that can sew or paint really well and you would like to do this as well, there are many opportunities to take classes at night or on weekends. One thing that you do have to keep in mind is the amount of talent that you have for such a project. It is also something in which you have an interest. If you don’t like it, then you won’t master it.

Your Purpose in Life - Connect With It

By Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD

With the continual expansion of instantaneous communication methods, the world exponentially shrinks, which leaves a profound question in people’s minds as to their place in an ever shrinking world. You might then be compelled to delve more deeply into the question of your purpose. Many people think there is a God given ordination for one’s purpose. Indeed, the basis of your soul’s sole purpose here is to create emotional and spiritual growth. However, your inner being, calls for deepening and enriching this purpose to its greatest depth and breadth.

The majority of people search for the answers to their purpose in life, outside of themselves.
The only path to deepening and enriching your purpose is to go within. The answer to one’s questions lie inside you. All you need do is look, listen and trust. Going within requires one to contemplate or meditate on creating a deeper and more enriched life.

Through meditation or contemplation, however, you can observe and learn the truth about your existence, for you break down the illusions that you created in your external life and you open up to your inner world and the truth. By meditating or contemplating, you will avoid the rationalizations and diversions that might influence your search for meaning, and instead come to the core of your being and your connection to the universe, which is where the truth that you seek resides.

Although, less popular in Western cultures, Buddhist and Hindu based meditation practices are the most practiced in both Eastern and Western cultures. Researchers posit that primitive hunter-gatherers may have discovered meditation and its altered states of consciousness as they stared at the flames of their fires during this nightly ritual. Meditation evolved in a structured practice over thousands of years. Indian scriptures called ‘tantras’ included meditation techniques over 5000 years ago. It is Buddha, one of history’s strongest proponents of meditation, who first introduced a formal technique of meditation around 500 B.C.

Contemplation is from the Latin root templus, an entering into an open or consecrated place. In the religious sense it is in the form of a prayer or meditation. In Christianity it is related to mysticism, as portrayed by the works of Teresa of Avila, Margery Kempe, Augustine Baker and Thomas Merton. From the earliest days of the Church, Christians have used contemplation as an essential part of prayer along with offering intercessions, supplications, and praise.

Both Meditation and Contemplation require a quiet environment and a willingness to use specific techniques, whether derived from the masters or one’s adaptations to go within to connect to one’s higher self and the answers that lie within.

While you are in the relaxed state of meditation or contemplation imagine connecting to the consciousness of the universe. Carl Jung described the universal consciousness as the collective unconscious. As you sense your openness you can ask what you need to know about the meaning of your life. The answer might not spring forth immediately, however, as you continue to connect to this collective unconscious you will notice that you have a greater sense of awareness of the direction you seek. You might notice a sense of ‘Aha,’ or a moment of profound truth that resonates as pure knowledge.

Nothing Left to Prove, Nothing Left to Earn

By Steve Wickham

The classic dysfunctional relationship is often characterised by the need of people to seek and earn approval, and prove themselves over and again. Conversely, as far as any relationship we might have with God is concerned, we have nothing left to prove, and nothing left to earn. It’s all there waiting for us to simply accept God as our friend and shepherd. And the greatest reward for a relationship with God is “rest,” deep within our soul.

Imagine a life with no more torment, less anxiety, and more abiding peace; imagine smiling more and loving every day, not just the weekends.

We can have the same relationship with the living God as Moses did.

The LORD replied [to Moses], “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” -Exodus 33:14 (NIV).

Philip Graham Ryken says that God’s Presence is literally his Face. The concept is God will make his face shine upon us, and turn his face toward us, as in the Priestly Blessing of Numbers chapter 6.

The ‘face of God’ is translated as the ‘closeness’ of the personal relationship that God offered Moses. The glory of God’s grace (his face) is first, and most of all, rest. The rest of peace converts into joy and vice versa. God promised to stay with Moses as he promises to stay with us. Such assurance facilitates an abiding joy (despite our difficulties) that simply must be experienced to be believed.

And God offers us the same thing as he gave to Moses. By virtue of that fact we have nothing left to prove and nothing left to earn.

Why do we continue to try to please God when we already have, through Christ’s redemptive work of the cross? We can do no more, and need not do more. Sure, our love for God compels to work hard, do good things and always attend to all our relationships, forgive etc, but we don’t do it from guilt, but from rest. We don’t have to do these things; we want to.

The rest of God is pure grace. His face is turned toward us, and it shines upon us, as he relentlessly seeks a personal, intimate relationship with us, through his eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. When we know God, we love him and he directs us.

Ways to Spiritual Growth - The Unspoken Walk

Marita L Harden

Have you ever felt spiritually stuck, or just felt a need to grow more in Christ? If you have ever felt this way, it’s actually a good thing. I believe that as Christians we should never be content with our walk with God, but continuously looking for ways to get closer to him. In order to grow closer to God you first have to consider the following:

1) You must first look at yourself. Yes, you have to examine yourself thoroughly. You must realize that your walk with God is a personal walk and must not be compared to anyone else. People often compare themselves with others and often feel disappointed when they may not measure up. You will never measure up because God called you to be you and not like someone else. Once you can accept that you can only be you, and then this will help your spiritual growth.

2) Confidence is also very important. People come to Christ from all walks of life and can suffer from spiritual low self esteem. You should not be ashamed of your past, in fact we all have a past. The truth of the matter is, that we were all different before our “BC” days….Before Christ. You have nothing to be ashamed of, your are not defined by your past. When you became saved, you were made a new creature and all old things were passed away. Lift your head high and walk in God’s love.

3) Testimony of your walk. You have a testimony for one reason…….. to share it with others. So many people can be delivered from your very own life’s experiences. Going back to spiritual confidence, once you obtain it, you can move forward and share how God’s moved in your personal life. You weren’t given a testimony to keep it to yourself……let people see God in your life.

How To Get Better Results From Your Self Improvement Efforts

By: Janno Lassen

A large number of people read a lot of self improvement books, or maybe I should say a lot of beginnings of self improvement books, but not that many actually finish the books, and even fewer start applying the ideas or exercises they are presented with in the books. While they may like the book and the suggestions in it, most people have a short attention span, and before they get around to applying the new information, their eyes gets caught by another great book, or something entirely different, and they quickly move on without getting any really life altering benefits from it.

The secret behind good self improvement and personal development is that when you find something you think might benefit you, you look further into the subject, either by buying and reading a book about it, or finding information on the subject elsewhere, and finally applying the information in your own life and thereby creating the improvements you desire.

Remember it is always good to learn new things from reading a good book on the subject, but the information has to be put to good use if you really wish to benefit from it.

Even Faster Self Improvement Is Possible

If you have interest in speeding up your self improvement even further, perhaps you should consider looking into self hypnosis or meditation.
Meditation is good for the soul and helps creating an inner calm, while self hypnosis is a very useful tool for implementing changes in your behaviour.

In order to get any benefits from either of these methods you will have to be consistent in using and or applying them in your life. Regular use of meditation or self hypnosis will strengthen what ever have gone before it so to speak.
Actually it is like with every new thing, in the beginning it is not so easy, and it takes some effort both to apply it, and to stay with the programme, but after a while, it more or less becomes automatic or second nature to you, and that is when you will start to really notice the benefits.

If you are interested in learning meditation I would recommend you look for a personal teacher, as you will be playing around with the powers of your own psyche and as you immerse deeper into the techniques you might be stirring up old emotions that can be difficult to tackle on your own.

A trained meditation teacher will be aware that these things happen in advance, and is equipped to handle the emotions and explain to you how to deal with them.

Actually self improvement by self hypnosis is a very powerful tool, and if you have access to one, I recommend you put it to good use, remember though, buying, and reading the material is not enough, you must apply the information too.

Self Improvement Effort By Oscar Lama

The Lazy Way To Remember Self Improvement

By: Aaron Potts

One of the biggest problems that people have with their self improvement efforts is simply that they forget to practice whatever techniques they are supposed to be practicing in order to improve their lives.

The truth of the matter is that you are so used to living your life in a certain way that you often forget to take the appropriate measures to effect long-term positive changes.

Back before the days of computer-generated task lists and automated telephone reminders, people used to tie a piece of yarn around their finger in order to remember that they were supposed to do something. It was a crude, but effective technique.

These days, our daily list of activities is so huge that in order to utilize the yarn technique, we would all run around looking like a blanket or a scarf that was in the process of being created!

An easier to use (and more fashionable) technique is to simply associate things that are in your life with whatever it is that you are supposed to remember to do. Then, every time you come across your associated experience, you will remember to take part in a certain self improvement technique.

For example, let’s say that you are wanting to improve your financial status in life. There are plenty of tasks that can be part of such a goal, but it has now been proven conclusively that the primary reason why people do not obtain financial success is because they do not have the proper mindset.

Reprogramming your subconscious to see wealth as positive and attainable is a far more effective strategy than simply working more hours, or trying to find “the next big thing” that people will pay good money for.

Another example could be weight loss. The very simple method of losing weight and increasing health has been known since long before the days of ultra-high tech diet and fitness programs. That answer is, of course, to eat healthy and to get plenty of exercise.

Again, it is the self-limiting belief about someone’s ability to follow through with that simple formula that stands in their way. That fact is easily remedied by convincing your subconscious mind that you are both worthy of incredible health, and that it is possible for you to attain it.

One more example - relationships. There are no “good and bad” people when it comes to relationships. Every single person on earth has thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of compatible partners out there, and they just haven’t run into each other yet.

However, the lonely or relationship-challenged individual will tend to think that there is something wrong with them, or that they are not “good enough” to have an incredible relationship, so they keep subconsciously reinforcing that same self-limiting belief over and over again in their mind.

In each of the cases listed above, as well as any other circumstance you can think of that needs improvement, the baseline solution is the same: Reprogram your thinking, and you will reprogram your reality.

Two simple and free ways to reprogram your thinking are through the use of what are popularly called “affirmations” or “visualizations.” In reality, however, both of those tools are simply glorified reminders about what you are supposed to be thinking. The trick to using them is to simply remember to do so!

In order to trip that memory switch, simply assign an affirmation or a visualization reminder to a common occurrence in your life, which, when it occurs, will remind you to reprogram your thinking.

In the case of wealth, you could find a certain shape that you equate with money - a circle for instance. Then, each time you see a circular shape, such as a coin, a coaster, the rim of a cup or a glass, you stop what you are doing and say your affirmation, or take 30 seconds and perform whatever visualization you have set up in advance.

For health, you can do the same thing, only this time, choose another common occurrence, such as a color. If you choose green as your “health” color, then every time you see the color green, you reaffirm to yourself that you are thin, healthy, and attractive, or you picture yourself looking sexy or vigorous in a visualization.

With regard to relationships, maybe you could choose a sound, such as the email sound on your computer, your dog barking, or the sound of a car engine. Each time you hear that sound, say your relationship affirming mantra in your head, or visualize yourself with your dream mate.

Each of these examples are meant to just give you an idea of how this whole process works, and you are encouraged to come up with your own reminder system. The key to the process is consistency, however. Your reminders need to be things that you experience several times every single day.

After repeatedly affirming and visualizing your desires over and over again many times each day, eventually you will reprogram yourself for whatever success it is that you are after, and the whole thing won’t have cost you any money, or even any significant amount of your time.
